Zebra Shark Recovery Program

zenon circle.jpg

In October 2020, Shreveport Aquarium was invited by Georgia Aquarium to participate in a genetics research project backed by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. This project directly contributes to the reintroduction of zebra sharks in areas in Indonesia where they have gone extinct.

This project also serves to support cutting edge research to answer questions related to zebra shark aging and factors that may influence sex determination, which is important not only for animals in managed care, but also to ensure the success of future marine reintroduction program.
