PARTY FOR THE PLANET April 21-27

​Visit the aquarium and learn ways you can make a positive impact on our planet and live more sustainably. Making small changes to our habits can make big impacts on our carbon footprint!

 

All Week: Take the pledge! Share with us on our pledge wall what YOU can do to help our planet and oceans.

 

  • Gator Talk & Feedings: Mon, Wed, and Fri at 1:30 p.m. Dive into the fascinating world of baby alligators, their unique feeding habits, and the crucial role they play in their ecosystems.

  • Shark Talk & Feedings: Mon, Wed, and Fri at 2:30 p.m.Discover the misunderstood beauty of these incredible predators, the challenges they face in the wild, and why they are essential for a healthy ocean.

  • Alligator Snapping Turtle Talk & Feedings: Tues, Thurs, Sat at 2:30 p.m. See their powerful jaws and learn about their habitat, diet, and the conservation efforts needed to ensure their survival. 

  • Shoreline Tidepool Experience: Daily Get up close with sea stars, cleaner shrimp, anemones, and more, while learning about the delicate balance of tidepool ecosystems.

Pollinator Party
Sunday, April 21, Noon - 3 p.m.

​

  • The first 25 kids of the day (paying guests or members) will receive a cool gift bag!

  • Dress like Superhero Day, to save the world! Those in costume will be eligible to enter their name to win an amazing gift basket.

  • Pollinators, like bees, butterflies and hummingbirds work hard to keep flowers healthy. Make your own flower craft and add it to our community gARTden! 

  • Get a cool bee or flower airbrush tattoo

  • See the sweet side of pollination. Pot your very own ornamental pepper plant to take home! 

  • Horticulturalist Tim Hoover will be on site to answer questions about the flora and fauna in and around the aquarium

  • Meet Beekeeper Dr. Buzgo from LSUS. He will bring some bee specimens. Learn how these tiny pollinators have a gigantic impact on our planet.

  • Science is Neat with Jackson Wheat: Learn how pollination works in a hands-on science activity

  • Free with admission to aquarium. Get tickets

Members Only Night (Tacos & Turtle Talks)

Tuesday, April 23, 6.30 – 8.30 p.m.

All ages – Free

 

Join us for a fun family-friendly evening designed exclusively for our cherished members! This special night will give you a unique opportunity to meet and bond with one of our favorite Animal Ambassador, Sunshine - the albino red-eared slider turtle whose story of survival is nothing short of miraculous. Learn the extraordinary tale of how Sunshine came to live with us, defying the odds with a one-in-a-million chance of survival. Delve into the fascinating and challenging world of albino animals in the wild, discovering the hurdles they face and the incredible resilience they exhibit.

 

This special evening also introduces an exciting new activity that will allow you to connect with our animals like never before. Be among the very first to participate in a new animal feeding experience with some of our favorite residents before this exclusive offer is extended to the public.

 

Plus, test your knowledge and learn intriguing facts about the animal kingdom with some trivia games AND enjoy a free taco bar! A cash bar will also be available.

LOVE THE BOOT DOWNTOWN BEAUTIFICATION

Saturday, April 27, 8 a.m. - 11 a.m.

​

Hey there, eco-warriors! Are you ready to get your hands dirty and make a difference in your community? Join us for a morning of trash pick up, weeding, and brush clearance to make our downtown beautiful! Meet us out front of the aquarium bright and early at 8 a.m. Make sure to come dressed in pants and sturdy shoes or boots.

 

We can provide some tools but please bring gloves and any snips or garden shears you might have. And as a special thank you for your hard work, get free admission to the aquarium that day!

Stock up on reusable items
Single-use plastics items can end up in our oceans and animals can eat or become entangled in them. Choose reusable or biodegradable straws, cups and totes to keep the animals safe. Our Sea Store has a variety of these reusable items for purchase.
